Last week’s Question of the week asked how you’re feeling after Google’s June core update, and 40% of you said you’re feeling positive and motivated, while 25% said you’re staying steady and focusing on what you can control. Another 25% said you’re feeling a bit discouraged, and the final 10% are in problem-solving mode. We’re here to support you through it all, no matter how you feel. To start, there’s a lot to share in today’s newsletter—new product features, an important update about Pinterest reporting, big ChatGPT launches, and other must-know news from our team. So let’s get right to it! What’s new Monetize videos as short as 10 seconds Do you have short-form videos running on your social accounts? We’ve updated the Raptive players to support videos as short as 10 seconds! This gives you even more ways to earn, using content you’ve already created. Upload your short-form videos to your dashboard’s Video Library, add them to your Video Playlists, or embed them manually on your site, and we’ll take care of the rest. Your player will still run up to 60 seconds of ads for your auto-play Playlist Player and 30 seconds for your click-to-play Related Player, but ads will never be longer than the video itself. Visit your Video Library to upload short-form videos → Get a more accurate view of your RPM and ad performance The new RPM on Monetized Traffic section of your Earnings Overview page helps you optimize ad revenue or find new opportunities to improve. Unlike standard RPM calculations, which use all GA4-tracked traffic, this new view zeroes in on sessions and pageviews where ads successfully ran. By filtering out traffic where ads didn’t run (due to blockers, bots, short visits, or tech issues), RPM on Monetized Traffic will give you a more accurate look at how your ads are actually earning. It can also show you what percentage of your traffic is driving revenue and help you spot issues that might be skewing your standard RPM reporting. See it for yourself in your Earnings Overview → The latest on changes to Pinterest traffic reporting On June 12, we discovered that Pinterest in-app iOS referral traffic from GA4 is being misattributed as “Direct” traffic. This is a Pinterest-specific issue, not a problem with your site or Raptive’s reporting. Because of this, we are not able to accurately attribute RPM reporting for Pinterest traffic. Many of you also noticed the change, so here’s a quick update based on what we know today. We’ve escalated this to our contacts at Pinterest, and they informed us this week that they’re working on a fix to ensure referral traffic is correctly attributed to Pinterest in third-party analytics platforms. While we’re still waiting on a timeline for when this change will take effect, we’re encouraged to know a fix is in progress. In the meantime, you can get an accurate view of your Pinterest traffic by looking at the “outbound clicks” in your Pinterest analytics reporting. Separately, there have been multiple reports of Pinterest traffic drops, starting around July 13. We’re actively investigating this issue and flagging it to our Pinterest partners. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more. Top resources When and how to prune content that may be hurting your site Old or low-performing content can quietly drag down your site’s visibility, authority, and reader engagement. Our latest guide walks you through our proven framework for evaluating low-performing content, knowing when to refresh vs. prune, and choosing the right action—noindex, unpublish, delete, or redirect—so every post on your site is pulling its weight. Strengthen your site with strategic content pruning → ChatGPT agent is here—expert tips to use it safely The recent launch of ChatGPT agent, part of the larger GPT-5 rollout announced last week, is creating a lot of buzz. For the first time ever, ChatGPT can read the web, execute commands, manage your calendar, shop online, keep context across tasks, and much more. It’s a major step forward for generative AI—and one that comes with both opportunity and risk. Our expert guide explains how to leverage ChatGPT agent to support your work without risking your data or compromising the importance of your human oversight and authenticity. Get a clear breakdown of its most important capabilities and features, inspiration for how to use it to save time and automate busy work, and safety tips for maintaining control when AI acts on your behalf. Explore the possibilities with ChatGPT agent → Quick tip Are you using one-date logic on your posts? For optimal SEO impact, we recommend applying one-date logic to all of your posts—meaning you should only show the modified date in your byline. This helps readers see that your content is current and lets search engines know when it was last updated. But remember, only update the modified date when you’ve made meaningful changes—like replacing outdated info with accurate details, restructuring sections, or adding new visuals. Tyler O’Shea Manager, SEO Services Raptive in the news We’re leading the conversation and making headlines Marc McCollum, Chief Growth Officer, wrote a piece in Digital Content Next about why ‘do not scrape’ policies matter more than ever. “Publishers are better off working together to set clear standards around AI—whether that’s through negotiations or government policy—rather than relying on piecemeal solutions that might not go our way. One step we can take: set industry-wide do-not-scrape policies. This isn’t the time to sit back while AI companies use publishers’ creative work.” Paul Bannister, Chief Strategy Officer, is featured in Digiday, discussing how creators and publishers are pushing back against AI content scraping. “It’s important that the industry is coming together to think through ways to put friction into the system to make it harder for the AI systems to steal everybody’s content. We’re seeing the industry come together to really think through what an ongoing payment structure between publishers and AI companies looks like.” What we’re reading The latest articles our team is sharing over Slack Google will now let you pick your top sources for search results (TechCrunch) Google executives contradict research on AI search traffic impact (PPC Land) More like no yield: a new book explores how Google soaked up the web’s ad profits (AdExchanger) Question of the week How often are you reviewing or pruning your low-performing content? 🌱 Every six months Spring and fall clean-up for me 🧹 Once a year One big sweep clears my clutter 🚨 Only after a traffic dip or an algo update When I see a drop, my pruning shears come out 💤 Haven't started (yet) It’s on my list—just needed your new guide!
